local property market showing positive signs

News at Furnell Residential | 26/06/2020

Furnell Residential is experiencing a surge of interest from both sellers and buyers as the country eases its way out of lockdown.

Ben Furnell. Managing Director of the Bardsey based agent, said: “We are carrying out valuations at a level that we haven’t seen for over 12 months and sales are also extremely buoyant.  In the majority of cases we are achieving on or around the asking price.”

Ben says current market conditions could be down to the sustained period of time people have spent in their existing homes at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“People have been asked to spend an unprecedented amount of time in their current home and garden during lockdown. This may well have finally convinced them the property is no longer fit for purpose and that now is the right time to move,” he said.

This is all in stark contrast to the opinions of some industry experts and commentators who are predicting tough times for the sector with house prices expected to fall significantly.

Ben commented: “We can only comment on the situation as we see it in the area we operate and of course we would be unwise to look too far ahead and make rash predictions. However our view is that good property, in desirable locations which is valued to reflect market conditions, will more often than not sell.”
