christmas drives upturn in buyer interest

News at Furnell Residential | 18/11/2019

Christmas might be a time for friends, family and festivities, but it is also a key time for the housing market, according to figures just released.

Rightmove, the UK's leading property portal, says that between Christmas Day 2018 and January 2nd 2019 traffic to its website increased  by a massive 231% .This followed a lull in the lead up to the festive period.

Ben Furnell, Managing Director of Furnell Residential, said: "There are a number of factors which drive this upturn.

"Firstly, people have much more time on their hands to trawl the internet and property portals are a popular destination.

"Also, people who have been entertaining or putting up relatives may be forced to admit that their current house is no longer fit for purpose which of course coincides with the New Year being the catalyst for major decisions such as moving.

"All these factors bring potential buyers to the market so if you are looking at selling it makes perfect sense to get your property ready before the January rush hots up."
